Vintage and Classic car websites

Descriptions of the historic car websites

General Classic Car information

oldclassiccar.co.uk Old Classic Car
Oldclassiccar.co.uk is a general old-car and commercial vehicle website for anyone wanting to find out more on this subject.

OCC contains a number of articles on choosing, buying, and maintaining classics, advice on where to spot rust in any car you're looking to buy, and a sizeable photograph archive of 1920s-1970s classic and vintage motors.

You can also read more about the old cars I've had since passing my test in 1987 (approx 45 and counting), and read about various old cars that belong to people who have visited the site, and sent in their own stories.

A recent addition is a free section for advertising old car parts for sale, or wanted for a restoration project.
classic-wheels.co.uk Classic Wheels
Classic Wheels appeared in 2004, designed to build on the content of oldclassiccar, and broaden the coverage to include historic aircraft, and a broader choice of content, everything from old tractor photographs, mystery photographs sent in by website visitors, articles on restoring old cars, caravans.

Also included is a series of articles sent in by a classic car dealer in the USA, with his unique take on the old-car scene in the States.

During 2005 Classic Wheels will be following the fortunes of a small team running 1970s Jaguar XJ saloons in historic motor races throughout the UK.

Thanks to a tie-in with Classic Car World, I now feature over 4000 pages of their specialist tools catalogue, all designed to help with maintaining both vintage, and not-so-vintage, cars and motorcycles.
Pedigree Automobiles classic car sales Pedigree Automobiles
Pedigree Automobiles was created in 2004 in response to a number of requests I received via oldclassiccar, for a service allowing owners of classic cars to sell their cherished vehicles online, without having to resort to the vagaries of online auctions.

There are a number of car sales packages to choose from, ranging from text-only adverts on marque-specific pages, to full blown colour adverts containing unlimited text, and a variety of colour photographs, on their own hand-built pages.

Specific Classic Car Marque & Model websites

A30 Austin A30 site
Featuring just the Austin A30, Longbridge's new small car design for the early 1950s.

There are photos of A30s, a screensaver, a background history to the model, and photos of various surviving cars seen at classic car events.
Classic Austin Morris Classic Austin Morris
If you are a fan of older Austin or Morris cars, then this is the site for you.

Classic Austin Morris is packed with photographs showing both well known and unusual examples of cars and light commercials from these two marques of yesterday, which ultimately merged into the newly formed BMC of the 1960s and disappeared without trace in the 1980s.

This website features cars built between the 1920s right through WW2 and into the 1950s and 1960s, culminating in the popular though often unremarkable models of the 1970s, such as the Marina and Maxi.
Classic Fords Classic Fords
Likewise if Dagenham's finest floats your boat, then there is a site for you too.

Classic Fords is an image gallery showing loads of vintage and classic Fords, photographed at various shows up and down the UK in recent years.

Both vintage (eg Model Y) and classic (eg Lotus Cortina) models of Ford feature here, so there should be something to have a look at for anyone who owns one of Henry's products.
Classic Jaguar Classic Jaguar
Coventry's finest hasn't been forgotten either, so if tasty old Jaguars or Daimlers are your thing, then have a look at the sports, saloon, and racing Jaguars featuring in this extensive photo archive. Daimlers feature here too, not just the Jaguar based models, but also pre-takeover models.

There are plenty of competition Jaguars here, photographed at historic race meetings such as those at Goodwood and Oulton Park. No matter whether you are a fan of XJ6, XJ12, E Type, XK120 - XK150, D Type or earlier Mk1 and Mk2 Jaguars there will be something you'll like the look of at Classic Jaguar.
Classic MG Classic MGs
The original Morris Garage cars (MG) were heavily based on contemporary Morris saloon running gear, and went from strength to strength producing a great range of sporting open, and closed coupe, models prior to WW2 from their Abingdon home.

After the war MG developed and launched some of the most common cars to be preserved today, partly due to their relative ease of servicing, and the superb spare parts backup. All the popular MGs are featured on this photos website, including MGA, MGB, Midget, TA, TC, TD, TF sports cars, and MG1100, Magnette and VA closed cars.
Classic Standards & Triumphs Classic Triumphs
I've had a few slightly dog-eared Triumphs since passing my test, so I couldn't resist doing an images site for the classic Triumphs, from late 1970s TR7s and Spitfire 1500s, going back in time to the Seven of the 1920s. Standard cars, who actually bought up the Triumph concern in 1944, also feature here. Following the takeover, both Standards and Triumphs were produced alongside each other at Canley, until 1963 when the "Standard" marque name disappeared in favour of "Triumph" badged cars.

I'm a huge fan of the Standard Ten saloon from the 1950s, and actively encourage people to save the remaining cars instead of plumping for obvious classic saloons such as Austins A30 and the Moggy Minor, both of which are already popular in preservation.
E83W Ford Thames E83W
I'm a big fan of the small range of Ford commercial vehicles, built between 1938 and 1957. Not finding much online covering these classic vans and pickups, I decided to do a site myself, especially as I own a few of these and know a little on the subject!

This site should be of interest to anyone who likes pre-war style vehicles. The E83W used the engine from the 10hp sidevalve Ford saloons of the period, housed within unique-to-E83W bodywork and chassis. Owners from all over the world have joined in with the register I run on this site, and has become a popular site for owners of classic Fordson and Thames 10cwt trucks.
MGB sports car MG MGB
A new site in 2008, featuring the roadster and GT versions of the MGB sportscar, including the rare V8 and MGC variants.
Dodge Trucks Old Dodge Trucks
To date there has been little on the web for enthusiasts of classic Dodge trucks, that are not necessarily military types.

Even in the US there are few sites catering for older Dodge trucks, so I set up this site to try and redress the balance, and provide a register of owners in the UK who run or are restoring pre-1960 Dodges. Both UK (Kew) built Dodges, and imported US and Canadian models are covered. There is also a good selection of Dodge books outlined on this marque-specific site.
Jaguar Jaguar Mark 2
This site, just for people interested in the Mk2 Jaguar and Daimler 250, was put live early in 2006, and features books about older Jaguars, a photograph gallery showing both road and race Mk2s, and a useful free parts noticeboard for MkII bits.
Jaguar XJ Jaguar XJ6C & XJ12C
The Jaguar and Daimler XJ coupes of the mid 1970s feature on this site, new in 2008. The site contains photos, information, a parts noticeboard and a free screensaver featuring various Jaguar XJ Coupes, at shows and in competition.
Triumph Herald Triumph Herald
The various versions of the 1959-1971 Triumph Herald feature on this small site, with a growing gallery of images and a free-to-use ad section where you can buy and sell Herald parts for free.

Other Non-Classic Motoring & Transport sites

Classic Aircraft Classic Aircraft
Classic Aircraft started out as an archive of images showing preserved old aeroplanes and museum exhibits in the UK.

Throughout 2004 it grew and grew, and now contains free parts classified adverts, personal recollections sent in from ex-RAF aircrew, and people who as a child attended airshows in the 1960s.

New content is being added regularly, so be sure to keep an eye on Classic Aircraft!
